How to Find 50+ Products to Sell on Amazon Using AI in Under 30 Minutes

The biggest bottleneck for new Amazon sellers isn't motivation or capital — it's not knowing what to list. Specifically, not knowing which brands you're allowed to sell (ungated in) and which products within those brands are worth listing.

AI solves this. Here's the exact process.

Brand Research vs. Product Research (Critical Distinction)

Most people treat these as one thing. They're not.

Brand research = finding brands you're eligible to list on your Amazon account (ungated brands).Product research = within those ungated brands, finding specific products where your supplier's price is lower than the Amazon selling price.

You have to do them in this order. Brand research first.

Here's why: if you spend 3 hours doing product research — finding price gaps, calculating margins, identifying good BSRs — and then go to list the product only to see "Apply to Sell," that time is wasted. You were gated the whole time.

Brand research first eliminates this problem entirely.

Why You Need AI for Brand Research

When I started in 2022, I did this manually. Hours of digging through categories, checking brands, hitting walls. It was slow and frustrating.

Today, ChatGPT does the heavy lifting. Not to pick products for you — to map the landscape of brands and product types within a category so you can quickly identify which ones to check for ungating status.

Here's the actual process.

Step 1: Identify Open Product Categories

Log into Amazon Seller Central. Navigate to the category overview page that shows what categories require approval and which don't.

Categories with no approval required for new sellers include:

  • Home & Garden
  • Home Appliances
  • Kitchen & Dining
  • Tools & Home Improvement
  • Office Products
  • Pet Supplies
  • Sports & Outdoors
  • Health & Personal Care
  • Avoid restricted categories like Sports Collectibles, Fine Art, and Jewelry until you've built up account history.

Pick one of the open categories to start. Let's use Kitchen Appliances as an example.

Step 2: Use ChatGPT to Map the Brand Landscape

    Enter this prompt into ChatGPT:

"I am a brand new Amazon seller and I am looking to find what types of products to list within the [CATEGORY] category. Provide me with a list of the top 50 brands and the most well-known within this product category. Focus on brands with the highest likelihood of being ungated for a new Amazon seller."

Replace [CATEGORY] with your chosen category.

What you'll get back is a list of product types within that category, then the top brands within each product type. For kitchen appliances, you might see: Ninja, KitchenAid, Breville, De'Longhi, Nespresso, Keurig, Jura, and 40+ more.

Now you have a target list.

Step 3: Check Ungating Status in Seller Central

Take each brand name from your AI-generated list, one at a time, and check your ungating status in Seller Central:

    1. Go to Inventory → Add Products2. Search for a product from that brand (e.g., "Ninja blender")3. Click on a result, select condition "New"4. Look at the button:- "Sell this product" = You're ungated. You can list this.- "Apply to Sell" = You're gated. Move to the next brand.

Expectation: you'll be gated in approximately 90% of brands you check. That's normal. You're looking for the 1–3 brands where you see "Sell this product."

When you find one, you're ready.

Step 4: Go Deep on One Ungated Brand

One ungated brand is all you need to generate 50+ product listings.

Here's how: take your ungated brand (let's say it's Jura espresso machines) and search that brand name in each of your domestic suppliers. Every supplier will have a different selection of Jura products — different models, colors, and configurations.

  • Supplier A might have 8 Jura products
  • Supplier B might have 12 Jura products
  • Supplier C might have 6 Jura products
  • That's potentially 26 unique products to research. For each one, you check the Amazon listing price against the supplier price. If there's a margin after Amazon's 15% referral fee, it's worth listing.

Across 4–6 suppliers, one ungated brand can easily produce 50–100 viable product checks.

Step 5: Get More Specific With AI When Needed

If you go through the full brand list from your first prompt and hit walls everywhere, get more specific.

Ask ChatGPT: "Based on the previous list, I want to focus more on coffee machines specifically. Can you give me a list of 50 brand names from reputable coffee machine brands that sell well on Amazon?"

This narrows your focus to a smaller product type and gives you another batch of brands to check. Keep drilling down until you find your ungated brands.

    The Time Investment

Done right, this process takes 10–30 minutes for brand research:

  • 5 minutes prompting AI and getting your brand list
  • 15–20 minutes checking ungating status in Seller Central one by one
  • Once you find 1–2 ungated brands, product research across your supplier network takes another 30–60 minutes. By the end of an hour, you can have 20–30 products ready to list.

    What This Solves

The most common complaint from new sellers: "I don't know what to list."

This system eliminates that problem. You're not guessing. You're using AI to surface a landscape of options, then systematically checking which ones you can act on.

John Derisme, a full-time nurse in my mentorship program, crossed $300,000 in sales in one year using this exact process alongside his hospital shifts. Erica crossed $10,000 in a single month while working a full-time remote job, putting in 1–2 hours per day.

The system works. The bottleneck is almost always whether people actually run the process consistently.
